Scammers are always looking for ways to steal your money and personal information. And tax season just presents another opportunity. Scammers pose as tax preparers or claim to work for the IRS to get access to your Social Security Number, bank account information, and other details.
According LifeLock, 28% of respondents in a 2025 survey reported they’d experienced a tax-related scam attempt in the past. Of those, 42% said the scams involved an IRS impersonator.
