What Happens When You Report a Scam through Operation Shamrock?

Clicking on the Report a Scam button on our site takes you to an intake form on the Chainabuse portal.

STEP 1
The intake form collects the information needed to assist in investigating the scam. It helps if you have copies of messages or screenshots of websites to upload as evidence. The page includes instructions about how to identify the type of scam you’ve experienced, as well as guidance to complete the forms.

STEP 2
Once you submit the report, Chainabuse forwards the information to the Operation Shamrock Investigation team. The team is staffed by volunteers from our Crypto Coalition law enforcement group.

STEP 3
The volunteer accesses the data and does a trace to identify the next best course of action, such as whether the stolen funds can possibly be frozen or seized. Unfortunately, not all cases can be forwarded for law enforcement action.

STEP 4
The investigation team will contact the victim and often connect them with a local police agency that can continue the process with information from Operation Shamrock’s investigators.

Who can help me recover my stolen money?

Law enforcement is the best and most common way for victims to recover funds because of their access to tools, seizure authorities, additional fraud reports, and connections to exchanges.

Operation Shamrock does not provide recovery services, nor does it endorse any company that claims it will recover your funds. If you receive communication from anyone claiming to work on our behalf, please contact ops@operationshamrock.org.

Recovery scams are extremely common. The people running recovery scams rely on you being stressed and desperate to recovery the stolen money. These scammers use fake ads and websites. They will often contact you directly using information from the original scam. Red flags: They ask for up-front payments, guarantee success, and use false testimonials on their websites.
